Modern Apprenticeships
Part of the main Skillseekers' budget allocated from the Scottish Executive to the local enterprise comany (LEC) network and Highlands & Islands Enterprise is set aside for Modern Apprenticeships.
There are both young and adult Modern Apprenticeships in thousands of skill areas, and they need to be undertaken whilst in employment. They require an assessment framework reliant on the workplace.
All Modern Apprenticeships follow a minimum level 3 VQ supplemented by further training in core skills. Careers Scotland provides help and information to young people who wish to enrol and also has a comprehensive list of local providers of the programme.
Funding is directed from the LEC either direct to company (if it is providing the training) or to the training provider (college or private).
Modern Apprenticeships operate in all LEC areas in Scotland, although funding may vary from £500 per young person trained to around £7,000 depending on the LEC priority sectors, the VQ undertaken and the amount of funding the young person has already attracted (if switching courses).
