New Deal
New Deal is part of the government's Welfare to Work strategy. It offers jobseekers aged 18-24, 25+, 50+ and those with disabilities a chance to develop their potential, gain skills and experience and find work.
In addition, New Deal for Lone Parents and New Deal for Disabled People offers the opportunity to lone parents and those with disabilities who are on other benefits to explore work options.
There are different strands of the New Deal operated by different organisations. For instance, the training and employment gateways (preparatory phases for New Deal) are operated through the local employment centres and promoted through the local enterprise companies (LECs).
Councils often deliver the environmental work and voluntary and training strands for individuals on New Deal. Alternatively, a local voluntary organisation or a college may deliver the voluntary or training options.
All these suppliers work with local companies. The enterprise networks hold the contract for delivery of the FTET option, but often use the national programme supplier network to deliver training on New Deal.
