Training for Work
Training for Work
Training for Work (TFW) is for people out of work who are updating or gaining new skills. Courses run from 10 to 26 weeks.
To be eligible, individuals must have been unemployed for six months or more and be aged 25 or over. There are certain circumstances where the six-month rule may be passed, including:
- returners to the labour market
- ex-detainees
- people for whom English is not the first language
- those who have been made unemployed through a large scale redundancy
Some TFW courses follow training to a recognised Vocational Qualification (VQ), but these courses tend to concentrate on core skill areas rather than vocational training, and most require the individual to work on placement with a company.
TFW is operated in all areas of Scotland although the amount of funding will vary from £500 to approx £3,000 depending on the course undertaken and the strategic priorities for the area.
Individuals can access training through a TFW learning provider (college or private) or through the local employment service.
All training providers must be contracted to a LEC and meet strict criteria to deliver training.
