Staff appraisals
In the January edition of ‘Business Insight’, we talked about New Year resolutions and, in particular, motivating you and your workforce. We asked: “So how’s your year going so far? Are you still on track for keeping all those business resolutions?”
April sees the beginning of another New Year for many companies - a new financial year – and with this brings the challenge of implementing new budgets, targets, strategies and operating plans.
It’s also a time to reflect on your staff’s performance over the past 12 months and to agree objectives and activities with each individual to ensure that they contribute to the success of your organisation.
So, this is a good time to carry out a review of the skills of your workforce and to map these against the requirements of each job role and, of course, the business.
Maintaining employees’ focus and motivation is essential if they are to make a full contribution to your business. Performance appraisals actively involve employees in understanding what is expected of them. By setting agreed objectives — and later reviewing the results — each employee is responsible for his or her own performance.
