Lanarkshire Business Learning Champions

Business Learning Champions

Nine Lanarkshire businesses were named Business Learning Champions recently, at an event hosted by the Lanarkshire Economic Forum Workforce Development group.

Airdrie Savings Bank, Atmel Smart Card, California Cake Company, DHL Exel, Inverarity Vaults, KRG Industries, LAMH Recycle Ltd, Markon Ltd and Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Ltd were presented with the award at the Learning for Profit in Lanarkshire event in East Kilbride, in recognition of their commitment to developing the training and development needs of staff.

More than 80 representatives from Lanarkshire’s business community attended to explore how various business support organisations can help them to access resources and funding for staff development.

The event was organised by learndirect scotland for business, in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and with the help and support of the other members of the Economic Forum; North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Careers Scotland, Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce and Lanarkshire Colleges.

There was a number of ‘live’ case studies, demonstrating how businesses have used training to get the most from their staff and increase their bottom line.

Gill Blair, the learndirect scotland for business training partner for Lanarkshire, said: “The Learning for Profit event was a real success and was an ideal opportunity for Lanarkshire businesses to find out about the wide range of staff development options available.

“By showcasing companies that have been transformed through improved training, the event clearly illustrated that learning and development really does work for businesses and for individuals. It improves the workforce, increases skills and boosts morale as well as dramatically improving a company’s bottom line.

Liz Connolly, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire said: "All nine businesses are excellent examples of how training and development is an integral part of creating a successful, modern business strategy. Their commitment to their workforce is impressive and I'm delighted that their efforts have been recognised.

“The Lanarkshire Economic Forum Workforce Development Group plays a key role in helping public and private sector partners to work together to progress the workforce development of small and medium enterprises in Lanarkshire. Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire recognises the value and benefit of improving workforce skills and development, not only for individuals, but for companies and the local economy as a whole.”
