Free business training is to be provided by the Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University (RGU).
The Centre for International Labour Market Studies has been successful in obtaining European Social Fund backing of £411,000 for its ‘Business Skills For Growth project’. This is supported by a steering group, including; RGU, Enterprise Trust North East, Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses, Aberdeen City Council and learndirect scotland for business.
The aim of the project is to provide short courses to improve SME business skills in specific areas, in the Aberdeen City and Shire area. The project team has been consulting with local SME’s to determine how best these courses can be designed to suit their needs. This has been done alongside a benchmarking exercise to ensure this new venture does not replicate current course provisions already available in the area. A best practice model is also being developed, which will lead the way for all providers on how best to provide training for SMEs in the future.
It is intended that the new training course will be innovative, using an interactive approach in its delivery. Through the use of online tools and backed up by workshops that will cover topics such as: finance, marketing, entrepreneurial skills, leadership, green business and business law. Each participant will be able to select topics which best meet their needs, with the option to study the full suite, in order to gain a recognised qualification.
Attendees will also be provided with a toolkit which will contain material from the course, useful contacts and case studies, which they will be able to use as a resource as they continue their work after participating in the course.
