Scoutscroft Holiday Centre, Berwickshire has won one of the tourism and hospitality industry’s first Business Excellence Awards – and a two-week scholarship overseas to study business practice on the continent. The awards, which seek to recognise outstanding business achievement, were launched this year by the industry’s Best Practice Forum in conjunction with the Savoy Educational Trust and other industry partners.
Scoutscroft won the category of businesses with under £1m turnover in the Holiday and Caravan Parks section which was sponsored by Willerby Holiday Homes Ltd. at a glittering Gala Awards Dinner held in London on Wednesday, 3 May 2006 attended by 400 people at the London Hilton on Park Lane, London.
Owner, John Hamilton was presented with a glass trophy, an additional commemorative plate from Wedgwood, together with the scholarship by the Savoy Educational Trust worth £2,500
The judges said that the Park’s consistent improvements and expansion over the last 12 years, winning its present high ratings through increases in customer care, staff retention, improvements in training and development, and furthering employee dedication, made it the clear winner in its category.
John Hamilton said he was delighted with the award.
“We’re delighted that all the hard work we’ve put into the business in the last 12 years has been acknowledged by our peers in this way – and we’re really looking forward to taking up the scholarship..”
Scoutscroft have received ongoing support and advice from learndirect scotland for business, training partner for the Borders, Lindsey Mason.
